My name is Phoebe, and I am a freshman/frackie at Whitney Young. At school, I participate in Girls Cross Country and The Young Company.
I started Company as a seventh grader, and I love being there. For the past three plays, I have made costumes, but I love acting, and one of the things I hope to do in my life is become a movie actress. I try out for the play every semester, and hopefully now that I am no longer an Academic Center student, I will have a better chance of getting a role.
I also love to make clothing. I have been making clothes for myself since I was about nine years old, and since then, I have also thought about a career in fashion. This year I am taking Urban Studies, the fashion class, at school. This will give me much more time to make clothing than I had in past years, when I tried to make things after school, in the midst of all my homework.
Another big thing in my life is the Italian language. this year, I am taking AP Italian. I started Italian classes in Kindgarten, because my elementery school, Andrew Jackson Language Academy, has a nmber of languages to choose from. In elementary school, we only ever learned ebough Italian to be able to have the simplest if conversations.
However, in the summer before fifth grade, I went to a camp called "Lago del Bosco", an Italian immersion camp, where all the counselors are only allowed to speak to the campers in Italian, all the food is in Italian, and all the music we listen to is in Italian. They even check the campers' bags before entering the camp, make sure they are not bringing in cell phones (to communicate with people outside of camp in English), English books, and any sort of mp3 player. I learn so much Italian at this camp every year, so the Italian language and culture has becomevery important to me.
There are many other aspects in my life, but the big three are definately fashion, acting, and Italian.
